SBHOA BOARDWALK PROPOSAL

On 11 August 2020 SBHOA representing the community, presented a proposal to the City of CTown to please consider placing a boardwalk on the dune section of the beach.  We asked them to give us an understanding of the effect this could have on the biodiversity, as well as the community.

The City of Cape Town is in favour of the project, and will support Sunset Beach should we wish to fund part or all of the project.

Should anyone wish to take this project further, you will need to fundraise, as well as get a clear understanding of the community's needs prior to going ahead with the project.

Thank you to the 70% who voted for this project, and also to the 30% who voted against it.  All the votes, comments and concerns have been noted, and can be found on the Sunset Beach Community page:

SBHOA have placed this project on hold until further notice.

Sunset Beach Boardwalk Proposal

It has been decided that the Sunset Beach HOA will withdraw from this project.
We do not have sufficient back ground information to understand the environmental impact such a project will have, and if and when this information will come to light, we will consult with the entire community by means of a presentation and then make a decision based on the community feedback to go ahead or stop the project.  Further notice on this will be communicated to all.

Recycling and composting are two of the best ways to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfills. These methods also reduce your carbon footprint and improve the environmental performance for businesses.

Bird Sightings in Sunset Beach can be recorded here

Many of the residents in Sunset Beach have grown extremely attached to the wildlife.  The birders are no exception.  It is for this reason that we have created a comprehensive list of South African Birds, which can now be ticked off when spotted.

Please complete the form below if you would like to assist in the contribution of building a Unique List of Birds who live in this area.

Opening of reserves, conservation areas, parks and beaches under Level 3 remains uncertain

Where can we go (legally) under Level 3 in Cape Town?

There seems to be a misunderstanding by the Executive Mayor of what the Regulations say.

While beaches and parks are closed and can only be opened if the Alert Level 3 regulations are changed, the question still remains in relation to Nature Reserves.

Werkmans Attorneys' Shane Krige says that the Media Statement fails to take into account the exception contained in Regulation 39(2)(g).   Regulation 39(2)(g) contains a specific exception that states that Nature Reserves are open for "such facilities and activities as envisaged in sub-regulation (3)." Sub-regulation 39(3) refers to "private self-drive excursion activities".

In other words, Nature Reserves are open for activities that can be conducted as self-drive excursions.

Entrance Beautification Project

SBHOA Committee would like to thank its members and sponsors for making this project a reality.

No allocation was made by the original developers to enhance and landscape the two entrances into Sunset Beach.  With two entrances leading into the suburb and the five beach parking areas, this quant neighbourhood has so much to offer.  In 2016 SBHOA committee members set aside funding from Vodacom, local sponsors, and volunteers to begin a very large project to improve the two entrances.

The aim was to create an entrance that is environmentally friendly and adds to the aesthetics of Sunset Beach.

Now that Phase One of this project is complete, Phase Two has now commenced.  SBHOA Committee would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed and assisted in making this project a wonderful success.

Phase One

Early in 2018 the project started with the installation of a borehole pump and irrigation.
