Artificial Intelligence is now able to tell you when you need to beef up your security

AI IS TRANSFORMING THE SECURITY INDUSTRY

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic, fictional concept. The truth is we are living in the future now. We are living in the fourth industrial revolution, digitisation, and the security industry is embracing digital transformation.
So how is AI changing the security industry? Security companies are using AI and Internet of Things (IoT) in a variety of creative ways. For example, in 2017 Fidelity ADT partnered with an international leader in its field to bring SecureConnect to the market. This is an alarm system with connected features like smart plugs and switches, cameras and an app. It uses geolocation to determine if you are home or not and AI to suggest when you should arm your alarm if you are away from home. The system learns your behaviour over time. This includes when you arm and disarm your alarm, which doors you use and even how long they stay open. After a couple of weeks of learning, the system will notify you of any unusual behaviour, such as doors left open or forgetting to arm the alarm.
Along with that Fidelity ADT designed, built and patented an IoT communicator that collects alarm information from your alarm panel, including all alarm signals, AC failures and battery discharge rates. There is a learning algorithm that will determine when your battery will fail based on discharge rates, this will give us the ability to pro-actively replace your battery before it fails, ensuring continuance of service. We currently have over 12 000 of these communicators deployed countrywide.
AI is also being used in community CCTV projects. Cameras are being deployed in communities that have the ability to learn what certain vehicles, people or behaviour looks like and can notify the contact centre if there is unusual behaviour. This increases our ability to respond pro-actively and we have already seen great results with this system.

Forum Security

SBHOA has been approached by an armed response security company - Forum Security. Forum wants to expand their service offering to Sunset Beach.

How will Forum Security secure Sunset Beach?
Forum Security has expressed their commitment to us in building a strong security presence in Sunset Beach. They profess to offer a very high quality service (alarm monitoring and armed response) at reasonable rates.

SBHOA Welcomes an increase in Security measures
As you know, we have recently seen an unacceptable high increase of crime in Sunset Beach. We agree that Sunset Beach have unacceptably high number crimes in our neighbourhood, which seems to increase weekly.

We welcome any increase in security measures with our current armed response security organisations, Crimewatch and Star Alarms. We also feel that we cannot limit residents to two armed response companies in the present climate, and we should give residents in Sunset Beach the opportunity to consider a third security company, Forum.

Can Forum Security provide good levels of service?

The SBHOA has done an initial evaluation on Forum Security and are satisfied that they can provide the required performance levels - in line with the commitments Forum has made.

More about Forum Security
·    Forum is a sizable company which have operated in excess of 7 years and have numerous clients across Table View and Milnerton.
·       Forum also has a low overhead structure, and currently monitors in excess of 80 cameras.
·     Forum is also the first armed response organisation to enter into an agreement with SBHOA, which stipulates detailed performance metrics and standard operating procedures in our suburb.

This gives us, as residents, the opportunity to not only engage the armed response organisation, but also ensure that they deliver what they promise to the Sunset Beach residents.

Recommended by SBHOA
Please do keep in mind that we do recommend Forum Security, Crimewatch and Star Alarms as the three reputable armed response organisations in Sunset Beach to choose as your armed response organisation.

Forum Security will start door-to-door selling from 21 May 2018.

As always, we value your feedback and you can contact us on office@sunsetbeach.org.za.

Should you want more information on Forum Security at this time, please contact the owner Leon Butler directly.

Announcing Project Camera Upgrade

Attention all Sunset Beach Residents and Business Owners

Below is the information covering the launch of the upgraded security camera project in Sunset Beach:

- Camera project background
- Time frame for installation
- How will we raise the money required?
- Why Crime Watch?
- Feedback please
- How to stay updated on progress
- Free "vehicle disc" stickers

Security Camera Project Information
We are lucky to be living in a low crime incident neighbourhood especially if we compare ourselves with other neighbourhoods in Cape Town.  I receive the weekly newsletter from City Bowl area and am shocked to see how crime has escalated to home invasions in the Cape Town CBD.

The SBHOA would like our community to focus not only of the prevention of crime, but also on any existing crime, regardless of the severity.

The existing security cameras have demonstrated a significant impact on lowering crime over the past few years, resulting in several criminals being apprehended.

Taking into account that Sunset Beach has two entrances, criminals (or possible suspects) can be tracked by Crime Watch as they move through Sunset Beach.  Security vehicles are dispatched immediately to investigate or ask suspects to leave the area.

The SBHOA has decided to initiate a security camera  project in Sunset Beach based on the preliminary study completed in partnership with Crime Watch:
  1. Additional camera coverage in beachfront areas and Ocean Way Shopping Centre will improve surveillance of these areas that have proven to be problematic in the past; and
  2. replacement of existing cameras with higher resolution PTZ cameras (PTZ= pan tilt zoom) will improve the ability to track and identify criminals, especially at night.
The video below explains what Pan Tilt Zoom camera is about:

This amounts to:

  • 1 new PTZ camera installed at the shopping centre.
  • 2 new PTZ cameras installed at beach parking areas.
  • Replacing the Bay Beach / Ocean Way camera.
  • Addition of any other cameras if funds permit.

What is the proposed time frame for installing new cameras?
The SBHOA plan to install the first camera by end of March.  Other planned cameras will be installed as soon as the funds are raised.   We are optimistic and are planning for the remaining cameras to be installed by the end of June 2017.

How will we raise the money to pay for  the camera project?
We need our Sunset Beach community to support the project to help us raise the R120,000 needed for 3 new cameras.  We will be relying on donations from residents and businesses in order to fund this project. Watch this space for more info

Why Crime Watch?
The SBHOA is working with Crime Watch to install, maintain and monitor the security cameras.  The majority of Sunset Beach residents are using Crime Watch as their security company.

Crime Watch is currently managing the existing cameras in Sunset Beach and  have the recently upgraded the network to support all the cameras (incl PTZ cameras) in real time.

As we kick-off with this project, we would appreciate your feedback:
Whether you are a resident or a business, please provide feedback, questions or ideas by emailing projectcamera@sunsetbeach.org.za

Your free "vehicle disk" sticker to display on your car:

To kick-off the camera projects, every household within Sunset Beach will received a flyer and 2 Sunset Beach discs for display on your vehicle.  Business owners and staff will also receive stickers.

Stickers will be distributed with flyers in the next 2 days.

The stickers will help with vehicle recognition as vehicles enter and leave Sunset Beach. Also, identify vehicles/people local to Sunset Beach in a similar type scenario as the "shipwreck" disaster.

If you need more stickers for your household, please email office@sunsetbeach.org.za.  Stickers will be delivered in your postbox.

Stay Updated with the status of this project:
Updates on progress can be provided in the projects tab section in the new SBHOA website (going live today 25 February 2017).  Content is still being updated as we grow the information requested by the community.

Click here for any updates on this project going forward.

We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing fellow "Sunsetters" driving around with their discs.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to hear from you.
